Fort Smith Mission Historical Park

The Roman Catholic Church expanded from Eastern Canada into the northwest as the fur trade opened up the North throughout the 1800's. Members of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate traveled spreading the word of God to the Aboriginal people.

Fort Vermilion Heritage Centre

Fiddling, jigging, river lots and dove-tailed log houses tell of a strong Metis presence. There are over 25 of these solid, hand-hwen structures in and around Fort Vermilion.

Fort Whoop-Up Interpretive Centre

This authentic replica fort sits at the site of the last North American Indian battle. Re-visit 1869 when you wondered - is today a good day to trade? The Fort was bustling with entrepreneurial spirit and rebellious corruption. Relive the experience today and learn about the Hudson's Bay Company trading, the treaty between the Cree and the Blackfoot and the history of this notorious era.

Frank Slide Interpretive Centre

The Centre sits above 90 million tons of rock that buried part of the sleeping town of Frank on April 29, 1903. The story of Canada's deadliest rockslide, as well as tales of coal mining and area settlement in the early days, are told through two award-winning high definition programs: In the Mountains Shadow and On the Edge of Destruction - The Frank Slide Story. Special events, displays and an interpretive walking trail make this a memorable experience.

Frog Lake National Historic Site

As a result of the Cree uprising in 1885, 16 people lost their lives. 9 white settlers were killed in the Village of Frog Lake, 6 Cree were subsequently hanged, and another Cree died as a result of illness developed in captivity.

Galt Museum

The Galt Museum's new Discovery Hall explores the living history of southwestern Alberta with a focus on the Kainai people. The Galt also features a stunning viewing gallery to observe the High Level Bridge, the Oldman River valley and Indian Battle Park, site of the last great battle between the Blackfoot and Cree.

George Lake Burial Site

In the winter and spring of 1918-1919 many of the Aboriginal People of Dunvegan and area perished as a result of the great flu epidemic. The Native People used Island Lake (now called George Lake) as a gathering place when they left for their trap-lines further north in their traditional trapping activities.

George Lake Native Encampment

George Lake is a place where plans and dreams originated for the Beaver People and continues to be a gathering plave to the Aboriginal People of Dunvegan and area. In past times some Beaver People camped here year round while others trapped and hunted on traditional lands.

Glenbow Museum - Blackfoot Gallery

The Glenbow Museum combines a museum, art gallery, library, and archives under one roof. An interactive online experience, Niitsitapiisini: Our Way of Life, teaches grade school children and people of all ages about the history of the Blackfoot culture.
